Becoming a Coach with PAHA

We appreciate your interest in becoming a coach.  PAHA is always looking for volunteers to help develop our players. In order to become a coach, and comply with policy, there are requirements that must be met to provide a safe, fun environment for all our players.
 
USA Hockey and the Coaching Education Program require both certification and registration to be eligible to coach. Registration is done online on a yearly basis. Certification is also required. Below is a checklist and description of each requirement that must be met to maintain eligibility to coach with PAHA and USA Hockey.
 
 

Pioneer Hockey Requirements

  • Register as a coach with PAHA  (You will need a current USA Hockey registration confirmation number to complete registration.) 

USA Hockey Requirements

The following must be completed prior to participating in any team events!

 

  • Register as a member of USA Hockey. (Cost is $46 plus any affiliate fees if applicable). Click here for more information.
  • Complete the background screening. Click here.
  • Complete the USA Hockey Safe Sport Training. (Required every year and cannot be added to a roster until completed). Click here for more information.
  • Complete the online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching. (Cost is $10 per module and only needs to be completed once per age level. Must be completed PRIOR to participating in any team activities and cannot be added to a roster until completed) Click here to register for the modules.

Coaching Education Program Certification Clinic Requirements (Must be completed by Dec. 31 each season)

  • Find, register and attend the required certification clinic. The Cost is $55. You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1. You can take clinics from April 1-Dec. 31 each season. Click here to locate a clinic.

Coaching Education Program Requirements

Coaches must attend the required clinic or refresh certifications and complete the necessary online age-specific module(s) by December 31st of the current playing season to continue coaching on January 1st.

Failure to complete the requirements or comply with policy will result in disciplinary action and immediate removal of coaching privileges!

RETURNING COACHES

Review the checklist above, make sure none of your certifications will expire in current season.

* CEP Level 3 is certification is valid for 2 years and may be refreshed for additional 2 year period a maximum of 2 times before needing Level 4 certificate.

** Age-Specific modules do not expire, but are required for each specific age group you will be coaching with. e.g. If you plan on coaching more than one age level, you will need to complete modules for each one.
